Chimney Fire grows, now 24,096 acres

Some South Monterey County residents impacted

BRADLEY, Calif - SUNDAY 10AM UPDATE: Residents living in the Bryson Hesperia Community in South Monterey County remain under evacuation orders.

Cal Fire reports The Chimney Fire burning in San Luis Obispo County is now 24,096 acres and is 35% contained.

Fire behavior is described as "extreme" as it moves north and west in steep, rugged terrain. The area is filled with dry and drought stressed timber and vegetation, according to Cal Fire.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

More than 2,600 fire personnel are assigned to the Chimney Fire.

Communities in San Luis Obispo County are also under evacuation orders, including Cal Shasta, Rancho de Lago, South Shore Village, Christmas Cove and Oak Shores.

SATURDAY 8/21: The Chimney Fire has forced an evacuation warning in South Monterey County. According to Cal Fire, people living in the Bryson Hesperia community in Bradley should be prepared to evacuate.

46 buildings have been destroyed. Seven buildings have been damaged.

The fire has burned 17,000 acres and 33% contained.
