MONTEREY, Calif. - September is National Preparedness Month, so are you prepared?
"The City of Monterey received its designation from the National Weather Service as a tsunami ready community, we're also in earthquake country. We have a lot of hazards in our community and potential for disasters. Most recently the Soberanes Fire really brought home the risks we face," said Monterey Fire Chief Gaudenz Panholzer.
Learning to create a defensible space is just one part of CIG's 4th annual Community Safety Fair.
"So that if a fire burns in their neighborhood it won't burn as intensely up to the home," said Panholzer.
Everything from fire safety to crime safety, first responders and experts will be on hand to answer your questions.
"This fair is an opportunity for people to get information on how to be prepared more before, during and after an emergency," said Panholzer.
The family fun event is this Saturday 10:00 a.m.- 2:00 p.m. at the Monterey County Fairgrounds.
