Caught on Camera: Sheriff's Deputy and the Three Bears chase

Deputies chase three bears in Tahoe City

TAHOE CITY, Calif. - It was almost like a chapter out of Goldilocks and the Three Bears in one Northern California city only this story ends with a police pursuit.

On Monday, a deputy with Placer County Sheriff's Office was patrolling the area of the Lighthouse Shopping Center in Tahoe City when he spotted a mother bear and her two cubs. That's when the chase began. The three cubs spotted Deputy Don Nevins and hightailed it out of the mall.

On his dash cam video, Nevins can be heard saying “What are you guys doin’?” with a chuckle.

The Placer County Sheriff's Office found humor in the video and posted it to their Facebook page with this caption: “We love how they all gathered up and took off together … Here comes the cops, run!!”

The bears ran safely into the nearby woods.

With winter quickly approaching, authorities said bears are roaming in the area looking for any food source they can find before going into hibernation.
