Family huddles in corner while man shoots into home

Man looking for girlfriend at wrong house

SALINAS, Calif. - A 36 year old Salinas man is behind bars after a targeted shooting on Saturday.

Salinas police say Rene Urritia went to a house on the 100 block of North Madeira Avenue and began pounding on the door to see his ex-girlfriend.

The people in the home had never heard of her. Urritia didn't believe them and wanted to see for himself. After they refused to let him in, police say Urritia went to his house across the street and grabbed a 9 mm handgun. He broke a window and began banging on the door, then shot between 4-5 rounds into the door.

The family who lived there huddled in a corner and weren't injured.

Police say Urritia went back home, and he was later arrested without incident. Police say he admitted to shooting the door in an attempt to find his girlfriend. Police said he didn't appear to be drunk or on drugs.

Urritia was booked into the Monterey County Jail for shooting into an inhabited dwelling and faces other charges.
