Soberanes Fire prompts several extended park closures

MONTEREY COUNTY, Calif. - The Monterey Peninsula Regional Park District announced that several open spaces and park sites will remain closed through late summer and early fall as a result of the Soberanes Fire. District officials say they need to assess the fire's impacts and prepare for each site's reopening. Here are the expected dates for reopening:

- Cachagua Community Park: Closed until October 1

- Garland Ranch Regional Park: Closed until August 31

- Kahn Ranch at Garland Ranch Regional Park: Closed until October 1

- Mill Creek Redwood Preserve: Closed Indefinitely

- Palo Corona Regional Park: Closed until October 1

- Whisler-Wilson at Palo Corona Regional Park: Closed until October 1
