Hollister Police arrest wanted rape suspect

HOLLISTER, Calif. - UPDATE: 3/9/2018 1:56 p.m. A man wanted for raping a woman in Hollister has been arrested.

31-year-old Cory Dean Daugherty is accused of sexually assaulting a victim in downtown Hollister back in October of 2017. With the help of still images from downtown surveillance cameras, Daugherty was identified as the suspect.

An arrest warrant was issued for Daugherty in January. He was located in Santa Clara County last week. The rape suspect was transferred to the San Benito County Jail and arraigned in court on March 6.

Daughtery is in custody on charges of forcible rape, assault with a deadly weapon, false imprisonment, and several special allegations. His bail has been set to $130,000.

1/18/18: The Hollister Police Department said they have identified a suspect of an October sexual assault, but still need help finding the man.

The victim of the sexual assault checked in to Hazel Hawkins Hospital and reported that they were sexually assaulted in downtown Hollister on an unknown date at an unknown time. Hollister Police said they've been going through surveillance video of downtown from the last several months.

The Department released photos last week asking for the public's help identifying the man.

After the release of the photographs, two separate sources came forward with information indicating that 31-year-old Cory Dean Daughtery of Fresno was the subject pictured. Detectives worked with the victim, who was able to provide enough information to obtain a warrant for Daughtery’s arrest on 1/18/18.

Daughtery’s warrant is for rape and other charges, and his bail is set at $130,000. Daughtery currently also has a “No Bail” warrant for a parole violation.

His whereabouts are unknown, as he is believed to be transient, and he may have left the Hollister area. Members of the public are encouraged to call police if they see Cory Daughtery or have information of his whereabouts at 831-638-4115.

"Detectives were able to isolate the date and time of the incident as October 27, 2017 at about 4 a.m." said Detective B. Leland.

It's been confirmed that the man in the photo is the suspect.

The suspect was described as a white man, about 38-years-old and police said he may be from Texas. The suspect was wearing a Golden State Warrior's jersey and a "boonie" style military hat with a short crew-cut style haircut.

Anyone with information regarding the suspect is asked to contact Detective Bo Leland at the Hollister Police Department at 831-638-4115.
