24-year-old killed while on family motorcycle trip

AROMAS, Calif. - A Kern County motorcyclist was killed Saturday morning when he crashed into the back of an S.U.V. and skidded underneath a tractor trailer on Highway 101 in Aromas, according to a press release from the California Highway Patrol.

Steven Meacham, 24, was on a family motorcycle trip around 10 a.m. when he encountered sudden and heavy traffic while riding southbound on Highway 101 near Dunbarton Road. Steven’s mother and father, riding on a separate bike, were able to avoid a collision, however Meacham, who is from Tehachapi, hit the back of a GMC Yukon, according to the C.H.P.

After the collision, Meacham was ejected from his motorcycle and ended up underneath a tractor trailer.

Meacham died at the scene.

The truck tractor involved in the collision left the scene prior to police getting there.  According to C.H.P. it is possible that the driver of the tractor trailer did not know that there was a collision.
