SALINAS, Calif. - We see a lot of trucks on the Central Coast, but most of them don't have the name "Monster" in front of them. But this Sunday, the monsters will be out in full force at the Salinas Sports Complex! The Central Coast will be able to see giant trucks doing things that trucks probably shouldn't be able to do.
The annual Salinas Monster Jam is here in town and will put on a two-hour show this Sunday at the Salinas Sports Complex. As you can see here, many of the custom-made monsters are on display in front of the complex right now for everyone to check out in advance. On Sunday, spectators will see these massive vehicles do jumps, wheelies, donuts, and even moonwalk. This event isn't aimed at one specific age group, but you may see the most smiles from the younger ones.
"We love seeing all the kids in here, it's a kid favorite. I was the same way, since I was 3 or 4 years old, I was up in the stands watching, now it's really cool, I get to be on the other side putting the smile on the kid's faces when they see Monster Mutt do a wheelie or when they see El Toro Loco blow smoke out of it's nose. It's a really cool experience, the kid's love it, but it's family friendly event for all ages. Mom and Dad love it just as much as the kids most of the time," said Feld Motorsports Event Manager, Mike Moser.
The event is put on by Feld Motorsports. Here's something you might find interesting; The trucks are made from scratch and do not use the shell of name brand trucks. The 1,500 horsepower monsters are only used for events like the Monster Jam, and are transported all around the world for shows. In addition to names you may have heard of like Grave Digger and Monster Mutt, Feld Motorsports will be debuting a new truck called Mutant at the Salinas event.
The show begins this Sunday at 2PM, and Saturday, fans can come to a free pit party from noon to five for a meet-and-greet with drivers and to see some of the monster trucks. That will be held on the front lawn of the Salinas Sports Complex.
