MONTEREY COUNTY, Calif. - Fire officials say drivers should anticipate another full closure of Highway 1, and this time, it could last up to 48 hours.
Although the highway remains open at this time, officials issued an "advance public notice of Highway 1 closure" Thursday afternoon.
Fire commanders report the Soberanes Fire continues to spread slowly toward the Big Sur area. If weather conditions permit, firefighters expect to start building backfires in the area during the next 24-48 hours.
Officials say they will issue additional notices if fire conditions warrant the highway's closure.
