Salinas Police Investigating City's 26th Homicide of 2013

Victim found near sidewalk on north side of city

SALINAS, Calif. - Police have detained three people as part of their investigation into a shooting that left a man dead.

Officers got the call for shots fired on Boronda Rd. and McKinnin St. just before noon Saturday.  When they arrived at the scene, they found a gravely injured 24-year-old lying near a sidewalk.  He was later pronounced dead.

The discovery led police to shut down a large stretch of Boronda Rd. for several hours.

Witness accounts led them to a suspect vehicle.  Officers pulled that vehicle over on Curtis and Main Streets and detained three people.

Police say they're investigating the homicide as gang related.
