Salinas Police searching for armed robbery suspect

Ice cream vendor pistol whipped on Rider Avenue

SALINAS, Calif. - Salinas Police are looking for the man who attempted to rob an ice cream vendor.

According to police, it happened on Thursday afternoon on Rider Avenue.

The victim was pushing his cart northbound on Rider Avenue when he was confronted by the suspect who pointed a small black revolver at him and demanded money. The suspect was speaking in Spanish. The victim handed over some cash, but police say the suspect wanted more and demanded his cell phone.

The suspect then pistol whipped the victim striking him on the head.

The robber ran to a car that was waiting for him and fired a shot at the victim. The victim was not hit.

The suspect then took off in a black Honda Civic four door with tinted windows.

The suspect is described as having a thin mustache and was last seen wearing dark clothing.
