SEASIDE, Calif. - A man wanted for a string of armed robberies was arrested Wednesday afternoon after leading police on a short bicycle and foot chase in Seaside.
Jose Sobalbarro Zeledon was taken into custody about 1:30 p.m.. He was first spotted by an animal control officer while riding a bicycle on Fremont Street near Trinity Avenue. Zeledon tried to escape police by bike, then on foot, before being caught and arrested.
Police say Zeledon struggled violently after being handcuffed, and was placed in the WRAP safe restraint system. He suffered what appeared to be minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Zeledon will be held at the Monterey County Jail on five counts of armed robbery, as well as a $250,000 felony arrest warrant and a $25,000 misdemeanor warrant issued in Tulare County.
Officers and detectives from the Seaside Police Department and Peninsula Regional Violence Narcotics Team participated in the arrest.
