Monterey Sgt. loses battle against cancer, community stepping in to help

MONTEREY, Calif. - A Monterey Police Sergeant has lost his battle with cancer, and his police family has set up a GoFundMe page to help with expenses.

Monterey Police Sergeant Douglas Holley's End of Watch was Friday, October 27th.

The Department says, "It is with great sadness we share the passing of our brother Monterey Police Sgt. Douglas Holley today after a courageous battle against cancer. Doug joined the Monterey Police Department in 2012 after 17 years of service with the Stockton Police Department. During his law enforcement career, Doug served as a patrol officer, Gang Task Force Officer, SWAT team member, Community Action Team member, and range master. Doug served his community with distinction in some of the most challenging law enforcement environments. The Monterey Police Department flag will be flown at half staff in honor of Doug. Our deepest condolences go out to his family who are in our thoughts and prayers."

Those who knew Doug say he was a well rounded person, someone that  could make you laugh and smile. They say Doug loved Police work and with his passing, there is a large void in the Law Enforcement Community. Doug will be tremendously missed, but never forgotten. He is survived by his wife and two sons.

Due to the medical and funeral expenses, his Police family has set up this account, asking for assistance from those willing to donate to the Holley Family.
