SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - A new temporary bridge will be installed in the Santa Cruz Mountains giving drivers access to a road that collapsed due to winter storms.
According to Santa Cruz County officials, Public Works crews will begin installations of a temporary bridge along Swanton Road at Molino Creek. The work will begin on September 25 closing the road until October 20. Detour signs will be posted in the area.
County officials said this project is a top priority and that the bridge is needed to maintain access on the deteriorating roadway. The county doesn’t expect a permanent repair of the road until 2018.
“The temporary bridge will feature dual 78-foot flatbed rail cars, which are capable of carrying CAL FIRE trucks, vehicles associated with Cal Poly's Swanton Pacific Ranch and other heavy vehicles. Once completed, the bridge will handle all standard and emergency vehicle traffic,” said County officials.
The $200,000 installation is being done under an emergency contract with Conley General Engineering in Santa Cruz.
