Salinas motorcyclist pleads no contest for death of Gabby Beas

SALINAS, Calif. - On June 7, Andrew Bennett, 31, plead no contest to felony vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence for the death of Gabriela Beas.

In October of 2016, Bennett drove his motorcycle on North Main Street in Salinas. Witnesses saw Bennett driving recklessly and speeding by other drivers.

Bennett ran a red light at the intersection of North Main Street and Harden Parkway and hit Gabriela Beas as she was crossing the street. Beas struck her head and died.

Bennett was arrested at the scene. Toxicology reports showed Bennett had a small amount of marijuana in his system at the time of the collision.

Bennett will receive six years which is the maximum term for his charge. He is scheduled to be sentenced on July 5, 2017 at the Monterey County Superior Courthouse.
