Salinas Police identify the city's 28th homicide victim

SALINAS, Calif. - UPDATE: 12/13/2017 10:43 a.m. Salinas Police have released the identity of a man shot and killed back in November. 

37-year-old Vicente Hernandez Cardenas had been shot multiple times on November 27 at the intersection of 1st Avenue and Bellhaven. The Salinas man died at the scene. Cardenas had been riding his bike when at least three men shot at him. 

The only description police have on the suspects is that they were wearing dark clothing. 

The department asks anyone with information to the city's 28th homicide to contact police at 831-758-7226. 

UPDATE 11/28/17 8:20 AM: Salinas Police say as many as three men may have been involved in the city's 28th homicide of 2017.

Police responded to the intersection of 1st Avenue and Bellhaven Street Monday night, and found a man lying in the middle of the street. The man, who appeared to be in his 20s, had been shot multiple times and died at the scene.

Investigators said the victim was riding his bike when at least three male suspects shot at him. The only description police have on the suspects is that they were wearing dark clothing. 

Police have not identified the victim, saying he was not carrying identification.

The case is being investigated as a gang-related crime.

ORIGINAL STORY: Police are investigating a homicide in Salinas. A man was found shot at the intersection of 1st Avenue and Bellhaven Street.  Witnesses at the scene say the victim was on a bike. No information has been released on a suspect. This is the 28th homicide of the year in Salinas.
