APTOS, Calif. - A 35-year-old Marina man is accused of intentionally brake-checking, then backing into a school bus in Santa Cruz County Monday.
Deputies say they were dispatched to northbound Highway 1 near Larkin Valley Road about 1:30 p.m. for reports of a road rage incident.
Deputies say Jeffrey Bowie, who was driving a Toyota Corolla, intentionally cut in front of a school bus and then rapidly slowed to 15 miles per hour. The school bus quickly responded to avoid a collision, but Bowie is accused of then driving next to the bus and attempting to turn into it.
The bus driver narrowly avoided the crash by turning onto the break down lane, at which point the driver pulled in front of the bus and intentionally backed into it.
Neither the bus driver nor its sole passenger -- a 3-year-old -- were injured.
Deputies identified Bowie as the driver of the Corolla. He was arrested Thursday at his home on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.
