Wanted Felon Armed with Gun Eludes Police in Seabright Neighborhood

Shelter-in-place lifted after emergency notification is sent to residents

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - Santa Cruz police said an armed felon is loose on the streets after he eluded officers Tuesday afternoon in the Seabright area. 

He was identified as 24-year-old Paul Garcia of Watsonville. Santa Cruz Police told Central Coast News Garcia is a known drug dealer who does business in this area. 

Officers said they were following Garcia, who was driving a silver Nissan Maxima when he jumped out of his car and started running through the neighborhood off Seabright Avenue.

Police told KION a passenger who was in the car with Garcia ran off as well. That person has not been identified. 

The neighborhood was canvassed for close to two hours before Santa Cruz police and members of the Santa Cruz County Gang and Narcotics Task Force ended their search around 4:30 p.m. 

An ermergency notification had been issued advising residents to shelter in place during that time; the lockdown covered a one-block area of Owen, Hall, Bronson and Woods streets.
