Suspect poses as UPS driver, steals from Gilroy Outlet store

GILROY, Calif. - UPDATE December 10, 2017 9:52PM

Security has been increased at the Gilroy Outlets following two incidents this week.

On Monday around 9:15 a.m., Gilroy Police say a man posing as a UPS delivery driver was let into the back on the Lane Bryant Clothing Store. The suspect made employees give him the money in the cash register. He then proceeded to lock the employees in a bathroom. Before leaving he reportedly told the employees that he was sorry and wished them Merry Christmas.

Shoppers KION spoke with say they were shocked to hear that happened. Natalie Caudillo, a Gilroy resident says "I hear a lot of bad things happening around here but this is one of the worst."

Gilroy resident Doris Castro was equally as shocked, "I'm surprised that something like this would happen in Gilroy."

Caudillo says their was no point at apologizing to the employees, "he knows what he was doing there's no point to even say that."

Another shopper we spoke with, Lisa Garfield says while she is thankful no one was seriously injured, it's still sad and is going to make it harder for UPS drivers to do their job, "It's pretty sad, like during the Holidays it's giving UPS drivers a really bad name because my son is a UPS driver."

Police are still searching for the suspect, he is described as a shorter than average male with brown eyes and short hair. Suspect was clean shaven in visible areas but may have had some scruff growing. Suspect wore a two tone (black and grey/white) windbreaker with its hood up, a white dust mask, and dark pants," said Gilroy PD.

If you know anything about this robbery or saw any suspicious activity around that time, call police.
