Teenage girl shot in the back in Salinas

Police say injuries are not life-threatening

SALINAS, Calif. - UPDATE: 6/7/207 12:15 A.M. - Salinas police say a teenage girl was driving on the 500 block of Terrace Street with two other people in the car when a Hispanic male, about 30-35 years old, approached her car and started shooting.

Multiple shots were fired and the 16-year-old driver was hit in the upper back.

The two other passengers were not injured.

The teen then drove to the 900 block of East Alisal Street and called police.

She was treated at a local hospital for a non-life threatening injury.

Police say the people in the car do not have any gang affiliation but believe the suspect is a gang member.

He was last seen wearing a black sweatshirt and blue jeans and was carrying a semi-automatic handgun.

A 16-year-old girl is recovering after being shot in Salinas.

Salinas Police said the teen was shot in her upper back. Her injuries are not life-threatening.

The shooting happened on Terrace Street, but officers found the victim and her family on East Alisal.
