UPDATE: Four arrested after home invasion and shooting in Watsonville

Deputies found firearms, masks and other evidence

WATSONVILLE, Calif. - UPDATE 9/11/17 9:27 PM: The Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office says a home invasion led to a shooting in Watsonville Sunday.

According to the sheriff’s office, the victims told deputies that multiple masked men armed with guns took off as deputies got to the home in the area of Rancho Road and Buena Vista Drive.

Deputies then saw four men leaving on foot through a strawberry field.

Watsonville Police, Santa Cruz Police and the California Highway Patrol helped deputies in the search for the suspects. Deputies and officers then found the suspects hiding in a eucalyptus grove.

Benjamin Cantu and David Lomeli were booked into the county jail. Two teens were also taken into custody. They also recovered multiple firearms, masks and other evidence.


Four people have been arrested in connection to a shooting that sent one man to the hospital Sunday afternoon in Watsonville.

Police say the incident happened in the area of Rancho Road and Buena Vista Drive.

The male victim was transported to the hospital and is in stable condition.

Several guns were confiscated.

Officers say it is currently unknown if the shooting is gang related.

The investigation is ongoing.
