SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - UPDATE: 9/27/2017 3:07 p.m. The suspected driver responsible for an accident on Highway 1 causing a motorcycle cop to crash earlier this month has been arrested.

According to the California Highway Patrol, 43-year-old Alfredo Saucedo Jr. was arrested Wednesday for an accident he caused on September 6. CHP said Saucedo was recklessly driving a 2000 Mercedes south on Highway 1  which resulted in a traffic collision with a CHP motorcycle cop and jeep. Both the officer and the driver of the jeep sustained injuries.

Saucedo was arrested in the San Jose area and will be booked into the Santa Clara County Jail.

A motorcycle cop suffered minor injuries after being struck by a speeding driver on Highway 1 in Santa Cruz.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident occurred around 3:30 p.m. on Highway 1 south near the fishhook and Ocean Street.

Witnesses said a car struck the CHP motorcycle and then spun out into another car.

"Six inches to the left and it would've been a different story. Thank you to everyone that's reached out to see if our CHP motorcycle officer is okay," said officials with CHP Santa Cruz.

The officer was treated and released from a local hospital for his injuries.

"This is a painful reminder of how exposed our officers are each day as they patrol our state highways in order to keep the motoring public safe," said CHP Santa Cruz.
