White House Designates San Benito County as HIDTA Initiative County

HOLLISTER, Calif. - San Benito County has now been designated as a HIDTA Initiative County.

The program, created by Congress, provides assistance to Federal, state, local, and tribal law enforcement agencies operating in areas determined to be critical drug-trafficking regions of the United States.

Historically, San Benito County was included in the South Bay Metro Initiative (SB METRO) within the Northern California HIDTA (NC HIDTA). SB Metro includes southern Alameda County, Santa Clara County, Santa Cruz County and Monterey County. But certain motions changed that distinction and they are now an HIDTA Initiative County.

And this new designation may mean new opportunities for funding for San Benito County.

KION's Matt Sizemore will have more on how this will impact the Office and the community at 5 and 6.
