SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - 2013 will close out as the driest year on record, according to Logan Johnson Warning Coordination Meteorologist with the National Weather Service.
Not only are the previous records broken, but in most cases, they have been shattered, said Johnson. Calendar year totals for 2013 are less than half of the previous record driest years in many locations, and the calendar year as a whole saw totals that were only 15 to 30 % of normal values.
Long term forecasts show a glimmer of hope out in the two week time frame with suggestions of a larger scale pattern change possible. So we'll keep our fingers crossed and hope that things improve!
