Erica Lopez joined the KION News Channel 5 46 and Telemundo 23 family in May, of 2018 as the bilingual weekday morning meteorologist. She comes to the Central Coast from her hometown of Ennis, TX,just 35 miles south of Dallas, TX.
Growing up in North Texas, Erica’s love for weather began at an early age when she would watch her local TV meteorologist for the Telemundo affiliate report on severe weather. She would also stay up late watching the Weather Channels coverage of hurricanes and severe storms all around the country, which grew her love for weather even more.
In 2013, Erica moved to Norman, OK to pursue a bachelor’s of science degree from the University of Oklahoma’s school of meteorology where she experienced severe weather, floods, fires and even winter storms. During her time in Oklahoma, she started to pursue opportunities in TV and in 2016 began interning at the local Telemundo station in Oklahoma City. This eventually led to her being offered a weekend on-air weather anchor position in the same year.
Wanting to expand her opportunities even further, Erica began interning at the ABC affiliate KOCO Channel in Oklahoma City to expand her forecasting and presentation in English.
She is excited to finally begin her career as a meteorologist on the central coast and expand her forecasting knowledge and presentation in both English and Spanish and keep both communities informed onthe local weather.
